HeartKids WA are dedicated to offering support, encouragement and hope to families of children with congenital or acquired heart defects whilst raising awareness and generating funds for children support programs, parent/patient comfort items, medical equipment and research into the causes of heart disease in children. Every day in Australia six babies are born with a heart defect/s - 2000 babies every year. HeartKids is Australia’s only charity solely focused on the needs of children and their families affected by Childhood Heart Disease (CHD). People and even Governments are unaware CHD is the most common birth abnormality and greatest killer of young Australians. Most people think its cancer, yet CHD takes twice as many lives and more than all other childhood diseases combined. |
Our StoryOur baby Amber Field was born in 2012 with Congenital Heart Disease. We found out at our 20 week scan that something was wrong with our baby’s heart. We were given the option to terminate our pregnancy however we felt strongly to proceed and give our baby every fighting chance at life. Our Cardiac Specialist advised that surgery could be performed to repair Amber’s heart after she was born which gave us a glimmer of hope that our baby may survive beyond birth.

After 6 months of fundraising for HeartKids WA together with the Mandurah Makos, local businesses, corporate businesses and many many individuals we have managed to raise a whopping $21,800!!! Wow, what an amazing effort by everyone! Our fundraising spanned across many activities including 2 x Mandurah Makos home game carnivals, tin rattling at the construction site of the new Perth Children's hospital, an online auction, corporate donations and online donations via everyday hero: We are absolutely overwhelmed by everyone's generosity and support. HeartKids WA are truly thankful and appreciative of our efforts with money raised being able to support & assist the many other children & families out there battling Congenital Heart Disease, funding for research and equipment for our hospitals. A huge thank you goes out to you, our football family the Mandurah Makos Committee & Members. Without this opportunity and unwavering support of our family especially Amber none of this would have been possible. We feel proud to be part of the Makos who from the start to the very end all chipped in together to make light work of two amazing home carnival fundraising days. |
